Maps Reimagined if Streaming Services Were Countries

A new study by Mackeeper has analyzed which streaming services are bigger than entire countries!

The US dominates global tech and is home to the majority of tech giants including streaming services, but this study shows which of these mammoth services are bigger than countries by comparing population to subscriber count. Throughout the pandemic, most streaming services like Spotify and Amazon Prime have thrived with some reaching total subscribers of 150 million.

We’ve reimagined how huge streaming services would look as countries by taking into account the countries’ population versus the streaming services’ subscriber count.

So which streaming services are bigger than whole countries?

APPLE MUSIC IS BIGGER THAN NINE COUNTRIES INCLUDING THE UK

In 2018, Apple became the first company to surpass the trillion-dollar value mark — and has more than doubled its value since. Apple music made a cool $4.1 billion dollars in revenue in 2020 and has 68 million subscribers which is more than the population of the UK and France.
With Apple’s streaming service competing with the likes of Spotify and Amazon Music, Apple Music is currently bigger than 9 countries, and ultimately would be one of the biggest on Earth.

NETFLIX WOULD BE AMONG THE BIGGEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services competing with the likes of Prime and NowTV but made an annual revenue of $25 billion dollars in 2020.

Netflix has a subscriber count of 230 million which puts it as the 6th biggest country on our list. It’s bigger than Bangladesh and Russia but it’s slowly catching up to Brazil in terms of population.

AMAZON PRIME HAS 150 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS MAKING IT BIGGER THAN RUSSIA

Whilst his position as the world’s richest man interchanges with Tesla founder, Elon Musk — the CEO of Amazon; Jeff Bezos has built a company now wealthier than 92% of the world’s countries.

With a market cap value of $1.6 trillion, it makes it on par with the whole of South Korea, a country with a population of 51.71 million people.

Looking at the total subscriber count of 150 million, Amazon Prime would be the 8th biggest country in the world chasing up to Netflix.

SPOTIFY HAS 144 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS MAKING IT THE 10TH BIGGEST COUNTRY

Spotify is one of the most popular apps for streaming music alongside Apple Music and is the 10th biggest country on the list. Spotify has 144 million subscribers making it bigger than Mexico (128mil) and Japan (126mil).
