More than 200 Advertisers Join Facebook Ad Boycott

Facebook’s facing a revolt among advertisers.  Where will it end up and will it have a real impact?

The campaign is asking businesses to stop advertising on Facebook in July to send a message.

“We are asking all businesses to stand in solidarity with our most deeply held American values of freedom, equality and justice and not advertise on Facebook’s services in July.” – Stop Hate for Profit

So far more than 200 companies have pledged to join the movement.  Search Engine Land published a list of companies.  Here are some of the bigger brand names:

Mark Zuckerberg responded in a FB post with a series of actions.

“Facebook stands for giving people a voice — especially people who have previously not had as much voice or power to share their experiences.” – Mark Zuckerberg

Among them are:

  • Providing Authoritative Information on Voting During the Pandemic
  • Additional Steps to Fight Voter Suppression
  • Creating a Higher Standard for Hateful Content in Ads
  • Labeling Newsworthy Content
