An Easier Way to Make Infographics

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  So, what is an infographic worth?  A lot.  Research shows that infographics increase web traffic by as much as 12 percent.  Eye-tracking studies shows visitors spend more time looking at images than reading words on the page – if the images are relevant.  Infographics couple strong design elements with relevant information.

After spending more time than I’d ever want to admit using Photoshop to create visual graphics, charts, and infographics, I started shopping around for something easier and quicker.  I’ve tried just about every tool that offers a free trial, but I’ve landed on Visme.

One of the things I like best about Visme is the intuitive interface.  Without doing any training or looking at manuals, I just started in.  There are plenty of templates to use.  Search by topic, find one that looks close to what you want and click.  Then, you can customize colors, graphics, images, shapes, and more.

If you don’t like the templates, you can start from scratch and build it yourself.

There’s a library of photos, images, artwork, and shapes you can that come standard.  If it’s not already included, you can upload anything you want.  Charts and graphs are really solid with lots of options, like graphs that adjust when you change numbers or ratios.

The interface is a drag and drop style, so add an element, resize it, pick it up and move it where you want.  Here are a few of the recent things I’ve created:

In addition to infographics, you can create presentations, flowcharts, surveys, white papers, timelines, charts, graphics, etc.  You can also embed interactive elements or links.  When you’re done, share or download in one click.

The basic plan is free.  You can add more design elements, storage, and juggle more projects with the standard ($14/month) or Complete ($25/month).  The free plan is great, but I have to warn you Visme is addictive to use.  Once you get started, you’ll want to add stuff to your content and you’ll probably want to upgrade.  Business accounts start at $25/month and enterprise options are available.  Student, educator, and school-wide accounts are also available (priced by semester).

FULL DISCLOSURE:  Visme offered me a free upgraded account to review.  I had similar free accounts from Piktochart and Canva, but I found Visme easier to use with more free goodies than the others.
